EQ-i

According to Reuven Bar-On, who is the person who coined the term Emotional Quotient, EQ reflects one’s ability to deal with daily environmental challenges and helps predict one’s success in life, including professional and personal pursuits. In 1997, following 17 years of research, Dr Bar-On published the only scientifically valid measure of the 15 Core Competencies of Emotional Intelligence — the Bar-On EQ-i.

The Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory Research indicates that there is a strong correlation between emotional intelligence and job performance. Many fail to believe that EI is not just a concept that people “inhale” and have to start believing before they wait for the results. It isn’t a pill that affects the belief system. The good news is that Emotional Intelligence can be nurtured and improved through training. At 6 Seconds, we teach individuals, teams and organizations in a fun way through activities, case studies and therapies and strategies through coaching and workshops. In addition the EQ-i is used to coach and provide feedback so that participants can to develop a plan of action.

Uses of the EQ-i are extensive. It is useful in corporate, clinical, educational, medical and research settings. Potential users come from many walks of life including human resources professionals, those who need coaching, coaches, organizational development consultants, career counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, physicians, and social workers. There is hardly a tool out there measuring such critical components with such a reliability and validity measure.

The EQ-i can be used by organizations for screening as part of the recruiting process to assist in identifying potentially successful employees. It can also be employed in identifying the emotional and social skills that are important to develop in employee training programs, team building, and in enhancing management capabilities at work. You can create a profile of the top performers in your organization to determine what skills are most valuable in your organization or for a particular position. The EQ-i is a valuable tool to use in improving and measuring the effectiveness of organizational development programs.
